Police stated they were contacted by a individual who discovered a automobile in Hanau marked with red-colored fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Officers then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was most likely blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.

Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the case" and have asked to the residents for details.

A senior official commented the vandalism made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.

"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
