Beginning in 2023, at least 150 of these locations have ceased operations – about 16% of the entire UK sector.

Additional spaces were granted financial assistance in improving facilities and gear that helped performers and concertgoers.

"The concept that money from concerts in big venues supports the local stages, where it all starts for performers like me, is just sensible," Sam Fender has stated.

Recently, the MVT shared it had saved a couple of local spots in south-east England, by placing them under public stewardship.

One venue in the city and the other in Bristol were purchased under the community ownership initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who acquire "ownership units" in the properties.
