Devastating Update on Cargo Plane Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The number of lives lost resulting from the freight aircraft that ignited and went down has now reached 13, per latest statements.

City Leader's Announcement

“On my way to the Workers’ candlelight gathering, I was informed of a 13th person that passed away as a result of the plane accident,” wrote the city mayor in a social media post. “My heart is with the loved ones, companions and colleagues of all who were lost in this recent disaster. We will get through this as one.”

Casualties Confirmed

A statement from the company identified the pilots operating the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and International Relief Officer Dana Diamond.

“Our thoughts are extended to every employee who has been affected and everyone in our community community – supporting you and making sure you obtain the attention and assistance you need is our priority,” the company’s statement read.

Probe Findings

Federal officials announced that the freight aircraft’s port side wing burst into flames and an engine separated just after liftoff from the aviation hub, causing the jet to plummet and erupt into a blaze.

The National Transportation Safety Board announced it is examining the aircraft’s service record, which was in the state for repairs a period before the accident.

Flight tracking information showed the jet was on the tarmac in the Texas city from 3 September to mid-October.

“We are knowledgeable that this jet was there in San Antonio,” remarked an NTSB member on later, without a precise time frame. “We will review each aspect of service that was performed, from the Texas period, straight to the date of the flight.”

Recovery of Vital Items

The pilot’s recorder and flight data recorder were recovered, and the power plant was located on the airfield.

The devices – known as flight recorders – were built to survive collision damage and intense heat from infernos, and they appeared to be intact when discovered within the crash debris. Authorities will analyzing information from the recorders.

Aircraft’s last flight details showed an height of that level and a speed of that speed ahead of the accident.

Repair History

According to Federal Aviation Administration records dated that date, a crack on a structural piece in the fuel container needed maintenance.

Singapore-based ST Engineering, which stated it provides structural repairs for the carrier’s MD-11 and operates a service location in that city, refused to provide remarks, but stated it would work closely when investigators reached out it.

Activities Resume

At the same time, UPS Worldport operations continued that evening with its overnight or nighttime procedure, official Jim Mayer stated. The three tarmacs at Louisville Muhammad Ali international airport were also open again.

The UPS package handling facility in this location is the organization’s biggest. The center engages over twenty thousand workers in the region, handles three hundred trips each day and processes more than 400,000 items per hour.

Public Reaction

A memorial was organized on the evening of that date by the local labor union, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the company’s primary shipping facility.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, started the vigil with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the estimated time of the accident before.

“This event was so abrupt, so surprising,” the leader spoke to the group of 200. “No one had a moment to bid farewell to each of those who we have mourned.”
