Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The third episode finished on a major cliffhanger and revealed the initial group of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, apart from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.

Casimir of the deceased character—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—exploited The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, wants revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their position as important members in House Halovar could enable the party reach locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the authorities that rule the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in quest for the antagonist.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Planners parties.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
